The Universitat de Mallorca (UMAC-ADEMA) is launching its academic operations with the aim of expanding higher education opportunities in the Balearic Islands and addressing the needs of strategic sectors characterized by high academic, scientific, and professional demand. Health Sciences will play a central role in this initiative through a new Faculty of Medical Sciences, conceived as an integrated academic unit designed to consolidate health-related degree programs, share teaching and clinical resources, and drive biomedical research across the islands.

La facultad tendrá su sede principal en el Campus Coll d’en Rabassa, un espacio de 3.500 metros cuadrados especializado en Ciencias de la Salud. Las instalaciones están preparadas para acoger la actividad académica de los grados sanitarios previstos, los programas de posgrado y el doctorado en Ciencias de la Salud, con una organización orientada a combinar docencia, práctica, simulación clínica e investigación.

The initial offering of undergraduate degrees in Health Sciences will include Medicine, Biomedicine, Biomedical and Health Engineering, Speech Therapy, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and Dentistry—the latter also being offered in English. With this structure, the Universitat de Mallorca aims to cover a wide range of healthcare profiles, spanning clinical practice and patient care, biomedical research, health-related technology, prevention, nutrition, communication, and oral health.

The Degree in Medicine is envisioned as a cornerstone program of the new faculty. Its implementation addresses the need to train medical professionals amidst rising healthcare demand and aims to strengthen clinical training from the earliest stages of university education. The program will utilize classrooms, laboratories, and simulation facilities, employing methodologies focused on practical application, decision-making, and progressive learning within environments that closely mirror actual clinical practice.

The Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedicine will strengthen the project’s scientific and research dimension. This program will focus on the study of biological processes, disease research, molecular and cellular analysis, and the development of new scientific approaches within the biomedical field. Its inclusion aims to train professionals capable of joining laboratories, research centers, biomedical innovation projects, and multidisciplinary health-related teams.

The Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical and Health Engineering will incorporate a technology track applied to the healthcare system. The program addresses the growing need for professionals capable of linking engineering, medical devices, artificial intelligence, data analysis, medical imaging, and emerging technologies with clinical practice and the improvement of care processes.

The Bachelor’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology will expand healthcare services to include the prevention, assessment, and treatment of disorders affecting communication, language, speech, voice, hearing, and swallowing. This is a field with growing demand across social, healthcare, and educational sectors, particularly in areas such as early intervention, rehabilitation, neurological disorders, aging, and communication needs at various stages of life.

Furthermore, continued support will be provided for the Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, an educational track linked to health promotion, disease prevention, and nutritional intervention. The program relates to areas such as clinical nutrition, community health, dietary habits, metabolism, nutritional education, and the management of cardiometabolic risk factors.

The Degree in Dentistry, which will be offered in both Spanish and English, will strengthen one of ADEMA’s areas with the longest academic track record. The program will be conducted in an environment equipped with clinical classrooms, laboratories, simulation resources, 3D technology, haptic virtual reality, and spaces dedicated to clinical practice and oral health research. Offering the program in English contributes to the new faculty’s international profile and helps attract students from other countries.

The Coll d’en Rabassa Campus features ten classrooms, two seminar rooms, nine laboratories, and various complementary spaces. It includes lecture halls, clinical classrooms, seminar and conference rooms, a library, specialized laboratories, clinical simulation areas, faculty workspaces, and zones dedicated to research projects.

The laboratories are equipped for basic science practicals, healthcare simulation, 3D diagnostics, image processing, haptic virtual reality, simulation manikins, hospital equipment, microscopes, autoclaves, incubators, 3D printers, and digital teaching support resources. Advanced clinical simulation will be a distinguishing feature of the academic model, enabling students to develop clinical, diagnostic, and procedural competencies in safe, controlled scenarios.

The faculty will also feature a virtual campus equipped with technological and educational resources to support in-person instruction and the development of hybrid or blended learning models. This infrastructure will provide access to teaching materials, assessment activities, communication tools, academic tracking, and collaborative learning environments.

University Research Center

The Coll d’en Rabassa Campus will also house the Mallorca University Research Center for Medical Sciences, conceived as an interdisciplinary space to facilitate collaboration among researchers from various fields, address complex health issues, foster talent retention, and promote knowledge transfer to the healthcare, business, and social sectors.

Furthermore, the university network is complemented by other campuses in Palma. The Son Rossinyol Campus, spanning 4,500 square meters, is equipped with laboratories, haptic 3D virtual simulation areas, a university clinic, treatment bays, and spaces dedicated to the Health Sciences. This facility reinforces the practical, clinical, and technological dimensions of the academic model.

Located on Jaime III Avenue, in the heart of Palma, is the Centre d’Investigació Universitària de Mallorca, a space of approximately 450 square meters dedicated to integrating research, postgraduate training, advanced clinical practice, continuing education, and knowledge transfer. Its activities will be particularly focused on Dentistry and Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

The new university features national and international teaching and research teams engaged in clinical practice, research, technological innovation, and knowledge transfer. ADEMA maintains relationships with over thirty international academic institutions for research projects and student and faculty exchanges, and is a member of networks such as the International Association for Health Professions Education, the Association for Dental Education in Europe, the Balearic Islands Biotechnology and Biomedicine Cluster, and Cluster.edu Illes Balears.

Furthermore, it has over 400 active agreements with companies and organizations for training, employability, and innovation, which will enable the connection of university activities with the professional, healthcare, social, and business sectors of the Balearic Islands.
