Bachelor in Human Nutrition and Dietetics

Presentation of the Bachelor in Nutrition

Eating and drinking are basic human needs; in order to survive, humans must be nourished. But eating is more than just ingesting nutrients. Food does not only have a physiological value or function, but also a social one; it is ingested in a cultural environment.

It is true that promoting and maintaining a healthy diet that reaches the entire population is the main objective of preventing chronic non-communicable diseases, such as obesity, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, etc. However, evidence-based dietary strategies for healthy eating in our population include public food policies, interventions in the food environment, and effective communication and education strategies.

We know that maintaining a healthy diet is crucial for our health. Thus, the ADEMA University School seeks to lead this field with new research and a quality educational program for future Dietitians-Nutritionists. It offers its students the opportunity to acquire the necessary tools in the field of nutrition and dietetics, based on project-based learning and clinical practice.

Why study Nutrition and Dietetics at ADEMA?

Clinical practice

Clinical practice as a learning process is essential for the development of practical skills of future professionals, by familiarizing them with real work contexts.

ADEMA has an integrated clinic made up of Dietitians-Nutritionists, health professionals specialised in the field of Human Nutrition and Dietetics. Dietary and nutritional advisory services are offered in order to improve people’s diet, advise on a healthier lifestyle and/or treat different diseases (digestive, cardiovascular, allergies and intolerances, etc.).

Our students actively participate in the clinic from the first year, taking part in the practical work of the bachelor subjects and through the Clinical Practice Training Program under the name Clinical Nutrition Training – CNT. This Service Learning methodology model allows students to acquire specific skills, as well as to have learning in a real environment, contributing to the demand/need of society in this field.

PBL: Project Based Learning

Through different collaborative projects, students acquire practical skills by testing theoretical knowledge, preparing them for real situations. Some of the projects:

  • Km0
  • Biomarkers
  • AOX: Antioxidant Diets
  • Social Perception of Food Allergies and Intolerances (SPFAI)
  • Health Observatory
  • Nutritional advice for Mallorcan schools
  • Stoichiometry of Nutrition
  • Cooking: Culinary Skills
  • Dissemination Action in Nutrition 360º
  • NutriOlympics
  • International Nutrition Week

AOX: Antioxidant Diets

Evaluation of the antioxidant potential of a dietary pattern rich in fruits and vegetables to enhance the beneficial effects of molecules with antioxidant capacity.

Practice in real cooking aimed at learning the portions/quantities of food to improve the design, planning or preparation of diets and menus, providing better care to patients.
