Marratxí has inaugurated a new tour of the University Art Biennial Art Week 2025, the international art project promoted by ADEMA that connects research, contemporary creation and university training through a network made up of 21 universities around the world.
The exhibition has been presented in the cultural space of Sa Refinadora and constitutes a new stop on the territorial tour of this first edition of the biennial, which after its inauguration has passed through different cultural spaces of Mallorca such as the Centre Cultural La Misericòrdia in Palma, the Museu del Calçat i de la Indústria in Inca, the Casal de Cultura de Costitx and the Casal de Cultura de Son Tugores in Alaró.
The exhibition brings together a selection of works by artists affiliated with academic institutions and art centers in Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, and Spain. Among the universities represented are the Academy of Fine Arts Munich (Germany), the École Européenne Supérieure d’Art de Bretagne (France), the Institute Art Gender Natura HGK Basel (Switzerland), the Accademia di Belle Arti di Macerata (Italy), the Arkitektskolen Aarhus (Denmark), and the ADEMA University School of Mallorca.
The pieces address diverse languages such as painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, video, installation or audiovisual projection, and reflect on issues related to identity, territory, memory or contemporary social transformations.
Among the works that can be seen in Marratxí are proposals such as Untitled (2025) by Arian Belitger, Fire Particles #1 (2025) by Eva Huchet, Fire Painting (2025) by Mathilde Fernigne, Herbarium (2020 in progress) by Fatma Ibrahimi, Diva superstar (2025) by Lisa Jäger, and the ceramic pieces Cuerpos de arcilla (2025) by Rebeca Morey. Also included are the paintings Un pic en s’estiu amb ses nines and Massa bé (2024) by Aina Parpal, as well as audiovisual works such as Kerizur (2025) by Eimer Birkbeck and Karine Lebrum and Que Faire du Fresne (2025) by Jeanne Robard, along with the collective installation Institutional Exchange (2025) developed by students from the Aarhus School of Architecture.
According to Mónica Galván, curator of the biennial’s traveling exhibitions and coordinator of the Fine Arts Degree at ADEMA, this tour through different municipalities is part of the project’s territorial vocation, as it allows the works to engage with new spaces and audiences and expands the reach of contemporary university art.
The University Art Biennial Art Week 2025 has brought together in its first edition more than 300 students, professors and researchers from 21 international universities, consolidating Mallorca as a meeting point for artistic and academic exchange and as a visibility platform for new generations of creators.
During the inauguration, the mayor of Marratxí, Jaume Llompart, stated that “it is an honor for our municipality to be part of the University Art Biennial tour, a project that connects young talent, artistic research, and collaboration between universities from different countries.” He thanked ADEMA for including Marratxí in this tour and highlighted the role of Sa Refinadora, which “is establishing itself as one of Mallorca’s leading cultural spaces, a meeting place that allows international projects like this one to reach the public and create new spaces for dialogue around contemporary art.”
For his part, the president of ADEMA, Diego González, thanked the Marratxí City Council for hosting the event and pointed out that the University Art Biennial transcends the exhibition format, establishing itself as a framework for exchange between universities, artists, and diverse audiences. “It is a space that fosters a way of understanding and sharing Fine Arts through collaboration, openness, and commitment,” he stated.
With this new stop, the University Art Biennial reinforces its decentralized vocation and its international projection, while consolidating Mallorca as a meeting point for artistic and academic exchange and expanding the visibility of new generations of creators.

The University Art Biennial – Art Week 2025 is supported by the Barceló Hotel Group, the Balearic Islands Government, the Balearic Institute of Studies, the Consell de Mallorca, Palma City Council, Inca City Council, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), Estrella Damm, Es Baluard Museum of Contemporary Art, Endesa, and the Baleària Foundation.
