The ADEMA-UIB University School has successfully completed the accreditation renewal process for the Bachelor’s Degree in Dentistry, which was completed during the 2024-2025 academic year.
The report issued by the Balearic Islands University Quality Agency (AQUIB), in coordination with the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA), concludes that the degree meets all the quality standards required by the Spanish university system. After eight years of continuous monitoring, the degree consolidates its position as a benchmark healthcare training program, standing out for its practical focus, the quality of its faculty, and the pioneering use of technology in teaching.
The Bachelor’s Degree in Dentistry from the ADEMA-UIB University School was officially registered in the Registry of Universities, Centers and Degrees (RUCT) in 2017. Since then, it has been subject to the internal and external quality assurance system established by the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA), with the aim of ensuring rigorous compliance with the commitments set out in its curriculum.
According to the Academic Secretary of the ADEMA University School, Dr. Pilar Tomas, “Over these eight years, the institution has annually prepared internal monitoring reports that have allowed us to measure academic performance, student and faculty satisfaction, and the implementation of improvement measures. These documents have provided an accurate and ongoing snapshot of the degree’s progress and have served to identify opportunities for improvement and reinforce educational practices that have proven effective.”
In this regard, the Academic Director of ADEMA-UIB, Dr. Joan de Pedro, highlighted the importance of the process: “The renewal of the accreditation of the Degree in Dentistry represents clear recognition of the rigorous and sustained work that has been carried out since the program’s launch. This favorable result not only validates the training model promoted, based on practical, technological, and student-centered training, but also reinforces our responsibility as a university institution committed to continuous improvement, teaching innovation, and a commitment to quality. It is a key step in consolidating ADEMA as a benchmark in university training in the field of healthcare.”
In addition to internal monitoring, the degree has been subject to an external evaluation every two years, through which experts outside the institution have been able to compare the degree’s progress with objective and independent criteria. This entire system culminates, according to regulations, in the accreditation renewal process, which involves a comprehensive analysis of the degree’s operation from its implementation to the present.
This renewal process was carried out throughout the 2024-2025 academic year, taking as a reference the entire history of the degree from the 2017-2018 to the 2023-2024 academic years. The first step, explained Dr. Pilar Tomas, consisted of the preparation of the self-assessment report by the center’s Quality Assurance Committee. This document details, with supporting documentation, the academic, teaching, research, and structural evolution of the degree, including results, strategies, resources, and regulatory compliance.
The pivotal moment of the process was the visit of the external evaluation panel, which took place on April 3, 2025. This panel was composed of faculty and student representatives from other Spanish universities, as well as technical staff from AQUIB. During the work day, the evaluators held interviews with the various stakeholders involved in the degree: the management team, faculty, students from all academic years, alumni, technical staff, and representatives of collaborating and employing institutions.
The panel members also toured the teaching and clinical facilities, highlighting the technological equipment of the Integrated University Clinic, the laboratories, the technical classrooms, and, in particular, the use of haptic 3D virtual simulators for preclinical teaching, a tool considered one of the most advanced internationally.
For the Head of Studies for the Dentistry Degree, Dr. Pere Riutord, “this commitment to technological innovation has become one of the most recognized aspects of ADEMA’s training model.”
On the other hand, ADEMA’s academic secretary argued that the evaluators’ report highlighted several strengths. First, the intensive practical training, which translates into a high number of clinical hours distributed throughout the curriculum. “This applied focus allows students to develop real-world skills from the initial stages, promoting their professional integration and preparation for clinical practice in their future careers,” stated Dr. Pilar Tomás.
Secondly, the report also highlighted the quality and stability of the faculty. “The degree meets the legal criteria for the proportion of PhDs and permanent appointments, but the panel also sought to highlight the research profile of the teaching staff, demonstrated by their scientific output, participation in conferences, and leadership in research projects. This academic and research component ensures up-to-date teaching that is in touch with the latest advances in dentistry,” asserted Dr. Joan de Pedro.
The visit concluded with a special congratulations to the directors of the Dentistry Degree at ADEMA-UIB. The panel of experts highlighted three essential aspects that, in their opinion, define the center’s identity: the high rate of internships completed by students, the quality of the facilities, and the institutional environment. “This last point was especially valued by the evaluators as a distinguishing feature, both in the relationship between faculty and students and in the commitment of all staff to continuous improvement,” asserted Dr. Pilar Tomás.
During the working sessions, the launch of the Dentistry Degree in English was also discussed, encouraging the institution to maintain its commitment to quality in this new challenge.
With this firm decision, the ADEMA-UIB Dentistry Degree consolidates its position as a university program of excellence in the field of healthcare, with academic, institutional, and professional recognition.
