Sculptor and professor of Bachelor in Fine Arts at the ADEMA University School, Marcos Juncal, has been awarded first prize at the 16th Inca – La Constancia Centro Instructivo Visual Arts Competition, one of the most established cultural events on the town’s artistic calendar. This year, 58 entries were received, of which 11 were selected as finalists and are on display from this afternoon at the Sa Cuartera Art Center, along with the winning piece.
The winning piece, titled “Venus Alignment with Tennis Ball,” combines a tiled base, a rusted metal pipe, and a Venus de Milo figure holding a tennis ball, creating a dialogue between classical art and contemporary culture. As Marcos Juncal explains, “the balance between the elements represents the fragility of our cultural heritage and how it remains in constant tension between the past and the present.”
Born in Pontevedra in 1975 and currently residing in Mallorca, Marcos Juncal holds a Master Sculptor degree from the Pontevedra School of Stonemasons. With over twenty years of experience, he has exhibited his work in Vigo, Santiago de Compostela, Madrid, Málaga, Valencia, and London, among other cities. He currently combines his artistic practice with teaching at the ADEMA University School, within the Fine Arts degree program.
El certamen, impulsado por el Ayuntamiento de Inca y el Centro Instructivo La Constancia, tiene como objetivo apoyar la creación artística contemporánea y promover la proyección de los artistas locales y nacionales. El premio está dotado con 4.200 euros.
