The Xavier Fiol Gallery, in collaboration with ADEMA Bellas Artes, has inaugurated the Live Work Create exhibition in the alternative space of the Son Armadams Garage, within the framework of the Nit de l’Art 2025. The exhibition, curated by Fernando Golvano, has opened its doors with the performance Birthland, by the artist and ADEMA professor Concha Vidal and the creator Lorena Bonnin, accompanied by the guitarist Mavic Bush.
Live Work Create was born as a sequel to the recent University Art Biennial – Art Week ADEMA 2025, in which more than 20 universities from around the world participated. On this occasion, the Xavier Fiol Gallery has opted for a selection of young artists who form an emerging, heterogeneous, and radical constellation, reflecting the openness of contemporary art to all its formal and critical possibilities.
The exhibition brings together seven artists associated with the biennial: Joan Bonnemaison, Gabrielle Curry, Elia Menang Setiadi, Adrià Miko, Rebeca Morey, Óscar González, and Concha Vidal. Their works create a diverse panorama in which painting, installation, collage, and sculpture interact in a contemporary way.
Highlights include Gabrielle Curry’s collages, where memories of the Bahamas and London are transformed into flashes of life; Elia Menang Setiadi’s ironic installation, constructed from modified toilet paper; and Adrià Miko’s pictorial series, an animal collection of brutalist and chromatic energy.
Joan Bonnemaison brings a melancholic imagery in which nature and reverie intertwine, while Rebeca Morey, an ADEMA student, uses recycled materials to critically question the representation of women and nature.
Óscar González, another young ADEMA student, is a highly versatile artist in his sculptural and installation practice. The ideas of series and modular structures define his pieces, created from 3D prints and produced with cement, which allow for diverse combinations, as if forming endless columns or enigmatic industrial repositories. Other pieces emerge from assemblages of minimal elements that evoke echoes of modern sculpture as a drawing in space.
Finally, the artist and ADEMA professor, Concha Vidal, presented paintings of gestural and chromatic expressionism, in addition to starring alongside Lorena Bonnin in the inaugural performance Birthland, which officially opens the exhibition at the Son Armadams Garage.
As gallerist Xavier Fiol explained, “With Live Work Create, we want to open a space where young languages and emerging perspectives can interact with the city in a context as special as Art Night. The Xavier Fiol Gallery has always been committed to research and experimentation, and this collaboration with ADEMA allows us to showcase a new generation of artists who are already setting the pace of contemporary art both on our islands and in important universities around the world.”
“For us, it was essential to bring this project to an alternative space like the Son Armadams Garage. We wanted to break away from the conventional gallery setting and explore a vibrant, resonant space that reinforces the experimental and open spirit of the exhibition,” he concluded.
It is worth noting that ADEMA will be present at the Nit de l’Art next Saturday, September 20th, a central event in Palma’s cultural calendar, with the following proposals: El Umbral, at the Barceló Foundation, curated by Mónica Galván, presents works by fourth-year students; Sístole, at the Aljub de la Misericòrdia. (Videomapping), a light intervention by artist Óscar González (Palma, 2003), curated by Adonay Bermúdez and under the technical direction of heritage by Matías Togores; and Experiencias expositivas, at the Nivia Born Boutique Hotel, with works by Álex Cueto and Luis Amador. The exhibition brings together two young perspectives that dialogue between the intimate and the natural.
