The municipality of Alaró hosts a new itinerary of the University Art Biennial Art Week 2025, the international art project promoted by ADEMA that connects research, contemporary creation and university training through a network involving more than 21 universities around the world.
The exhibition presents twelve works from institutions such as Academy of Fine Arts Munich, Germany; École Européenne Supérieure d’Art de Bretagne, France; Chelsea College of Arts at the University of the Arts London, United Kingdom; Institute Art Gender Natura HGK Basel, Switzerland; Accademia di Belle Arti di Macerata, Italy; Arkitektskolen Aarhus, Denmark; and the Escola Universitària ADEMA, Mallorca, Spain.
The pieces address diverse languages such as painting, sculpture, photography, video, installation or audiovisual projection, and reflect on issues related to identity, territory and contemporary contexts.
During the opening, Cati Cifre, Councillor for Culture of the Alaró Town Council, highlighted the importance of hosting an event of this nature in the municipality. “For Alaró, it is a source of pride to be part of an international project that places art and education at its core. This exhibition brings high-quality contemporary works to our residents and reinforces the role of Casal Son Tugores as an open and vibrant cultural space,” she stated.
For her part, Amparo Sard, Head of Studies for the Fine Arts Degree at ADEMA, thanked the Alaró City Council for hosting the event and noted that the University Art Biennial transcends the exhibition format, establishing itself as a framework for exchange between universities, artists, and diverse audiences. “It is a space that fosters a way of understanding and sharing Fine Arts through collaboration, openness, and commitment,” she stated.
The exhibition’s curator and coordinator of the Fine Arts Degree at ADEMA, Mónica Galván, emphasized that the traveling exhibitions are an essential part of the project’s continuity, allowing the Biennial to be reimagined in each venue. “Each tour reactivates the Biennial in a new context. The artworks interact with the space and the public in each municipality, and this provides different interpretations and enriches the experience,” she explained.
Galván added that bringing the exhibition to Alaró reinforces the project’s public dimension and its connection to the region. “Bringing the University Art Biennial to municipalities like Alaró means expanding access to contemporary university art and showcasing artistic research processes in dialogue with the public. Sharing these works also opens a space for reflection on the arts and their teaching,” she noted.
With this new stop, the University Art Biennial reinforces its decentralized vocation and its international projection, while consolidating Mallorca as a meeting point for artistic and academic exchange and expanding the visibility of new generations of creators.
A global network from Mallorca
The University Art Biennial – Art Week 2025 is supported by the Barceló Hotel Group, the Balearic Islands Government, the Balearic Institute of Studies, the Consell de Mallorca, Palma City Council, Inca City Council, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), Estrella Damm, Es Baluard Museum of Contemporary Art, Endesa, and the Baleària Foundation.
