The Casal de Cultura de Costitx hosts from today a new stop of the University Art Biennial – Art Week 2025, the largest international art project promoted by ADEMA that brings together works from twenty universities around the world focusing on research and contemporary artistic practice.
After its run at the Barceló Foundation, the La Misericòrdia Cultural Center in Palma and the Footwear Museum in Inca, the exhibition continues its tour of the municipalities of Mallorca, now in Costitx with a new selection of pieces that reflect on identity, territory and the challenges of our time from the perspective of new artists in training.
The exhibition, inaugurated by the mayor of Costitx, Antoni Salas, along with representatives from the Fine Arts Degree program at ADEMA, will remain open until November 26th. During the opening ceremony, the mayor explained the importance of this exhibition for the municipality, as it brings high-level international artistic proposals to the area. “We have succeeded in bringing Costitx into a circuit that unites education, art, and innovation. We want our residents and visitors to discover the talent of young artists who, from different parts of the world, offer fresh perspectives. Many thanks to ADEMA for this initiative and for choosing our Cultural Center.”
Art, research and territory
The exhibited pieces are a collection of works that allows for a more intimate appreciation of the scope of the project undertaken by ADEMA. The selection is the result of research processes developed by students and faculty researchers from universities in Italy, Poland, Ukraine, France, and ADEMA itself, among others. Mónica Galván, coordinator of the Fine Arts Degree program at ADEMA, emphasized the importance of this new tour: “Each space where we are exhibiting transforms and enriches the Biennial project. In Costitx, the works engage with a new context and a different audience. For ADEMA, it is essential that contemporary university art moves beyond the major centers and connects with the entire educational and cultural community of Mallorca.”
The president of ADEMA, Diego González, thanked the Costitx City Council for their hospitality and explained that “The University Art Biennial is much more than an exhibition; it has become a meeting place for universities, artists, and the public. It represents a new way of understanding Fine Arts: open, collaborative, and committed.”
A global network from Mallorca
With this new venue, the University Art Biennial ADEMA reaffirms its decentralized character and international focus, consolidating Mallorca as a meeting point for artistic and academic reflection. The traveling exhibition will continue its tour through different municipalities on the island, fostering connections between emerging artists, cultural institutions, and the public.
The University Art Biennial – Art Week 2025 is supported by the Barceló Hotel Group, the Balearic Islands Government, the Balearic Institute of Studies, the Consell de Mallorca, Palma City Council, Inca City Council, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), Estrella Damm, Es Baluard Museum of Contemporary Art, Endesa, and the Baleària Foundation.
