The Fine Arts degree program at ADEMA University School participated once again today in the 2026 edition of Art Palma Brunch, organized by Art Palma Contemporani, with three artistic proposals reflecting the academic and creative work of its students. The installations were on display at the Barceló Foundation, the Nivia Born Boutique Hotel, and La Misericòrdia as part of the event’s official exhibition program, further solidifying the presence of emerging art.
The first of these initiatives was presented at the Barceló Foundation with the exhibition “Reinterpretations#2,” a project developed by third-year Fine Arts students at ADEMA in collaboration with students from Chelsea College of Arts at the University of the Arts London, and curated by Pilar Pujol. This initiative is a joint effort between the Barceló Foundation and ADEMA, and forms part of a cultural strategy aimed at strengthening artistic and academic ties between Palma and London.
The exhibition, which premiered at the Cookhouse Gallery in London, has arrived in Palma following its success in the British capital. It offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the painting “Es Born a S’horabaixa” by the Mallorcan painter Joan Fuster Bonnín, a work from the Barceló Foundation’s collection. Using this painting as a starting point, students have developed new visual and conceptual readings that engage with Mallorca’s artistic history from contemporary perspectives.
“Reinterpretations#2” has been presented for the first time alongside the original artwork that inspired the project, creating a direct dialogue between heritage and artistic innovation. The exhibition brings together more than twenty works, including paintings, projections, installations, photogravures, ceramic pieces, and audiovisual interventions that combine traditional techniques with technological resources.
The exhibition offers an experience that invites viewers to approach the landscape and atmosphere of Palma from a contemporary perspective. Elements such as light, texture, sound, and movement are integrated into the pieces to reinterpret the urban and cultural identity of the Paseo del Borne, the setting for Fuster Bonnín’s original work. The works thus establish a dialogue between disciplines, generations, and cultural contexts, connecting Mallorca’s artistic heritage with new visual narratives.
At Nivia Born and La Misericòrdia
ADEMA’s second intervention has been exhibited at the Nivia Born Boutique Hotel, with projects by students Nerea Garcias and Candela Russo, whose proposals are mainly articulated through drawing and painting.
Nerea Garcias presents the series “Fragmented Bodies,” composed of four graphic works on paper in which the artist explores self-portraiture from an introspective perspective. In these pieces, the figures appear altered by geometric blocks that interrupt the continuity of the body. These elements function as visual structures that, in addition to concealing parts of the figure, suggest spaces for inner exploration and reflection on identity. The series is completed with the work “In-perfecta,” a self-portrait in acrylic paint on canvas that represents the body from an intimate and direct gaze, underscoring the tension between vulnerability and presence.
Candela Russo, for her part, presents a series of acrylic paintings on panel focused on the representation of the human figure in situations of fragility, resilience, and solitude. In her work, the sea appears as an emotional metaphor that evokes the unpredictable, the unstable, and the profound, configuring a symbolic landscape that resonates with the inner states of the depicted figures.
Furthermore, ADEMA has once again been selected to participate in “Noves Presències” at La Misericòrdia, an exhibition curated by Tomeu Simonet that showcases some of the most vibrant and rapidly evolving artistic processes in Mallorca. This year, the curator has chosen three projects by ADEMA students, all of which share a common thread: architecture. Laura Bibiloni, Margalida Serra Celià, and Paula Muntaner Pérez explore, from their own unique perspectives, the possibilities of matter, space, and form, developing proposals that engage with construction, perception, and the experience of the environment.
With this triple presence at Art Palma Brunch 2026, ADEMA articulates a proposal that integrates higher education, contemporary creation and professional projection, reinforcing the positioning of Mallorca as an active environment in artistic production, cultural innovation and specialized training in art and design.
