ADEMA and Humana Health & Care have formalized a collaboration agreement that will allow students of future Health Sciences degrees at the University of Mallorca (UMAC) to carry out academic internships in this health organization.
ADEMA incorporates as a collaborating company a healthcare institution specializing in comprehensive care for chronic patients with complex needs in the home environment, ensuring that students can learn in a real and highly specialized clinical context.
Carlos López, the CEO of ADEMA, has welcomed the agreement, which will allow each student to have a university academic tutor and a professional tutor assigned by this healthcare organization. He explained that “this practical experience will be officially recognized within the curriculum and is an important component in the training of future healthcare professionals.”
In this regard, he argued that “the innovative educational methodology based on learning projects in real environments is a strength of ADEMA since it brings students closer to clinical practice and promotes their involvement in healthcare dynamics, the acquisition of skills and the ability to work in a coordinated manner with other healthcare professionals.”
Dr. Karina Ojanguren of Humana Health & Care expressed her satisfaction with the agreement reached with ADEMA, as it facilitates the connection between university education and the real needs of the healthcare system. “Opening the doors to students also enriches the daily work of the teams, who incorporate new perspectives and actively participate in the training of young talent,” she stated.
Both Carlos López and Karina Ojanguren agreed that “external placements in hospital settings are a fundamental component of the training of university students in Health Sciences, as they allow for the effective integration of theory acquired in the classroom with clinical practice in real-world environments. This direct contact with professional reality fosters an understanding of the tasks, functions, and responsibilities performed in different healthcare, social care, or community settings.”
On the other hand, it is worth noting that exposure to the dynamics of a hospital also fosters the acquisition of a comprehensive view of the profession. “Practice is not limited to the execution of procedures, but involves the internalization of ethical values, the understanding of the human dimension of care, and the assimilation of the importance of interdisciplinary work. This training process contributes to consolidating clinical judgment based on experience, gaining firsthand knowledge of the different areas of specialization, exploring career paths, and strengthening students’ ability to act responsibly and empathetically in their relationships with patients and families, in problem-solving, and in decision-making in high-pressure situations.”
