The University School ADEMA and the Barceló Foundation have inaugurated today the exhibition “Entre blau i groc, verd”, a selection of works of the students of the Degree in Fine Arts of this center attached to the UIB, directed by Dr. Amparo Sard, on the occasion of the Nit de l’Art 23.
This exhibition, curated by Monica Galvan, which will also be present at the Nit de l’Art 23, will run until October 6. An exhibition consisting of 22 pieces, produced by 18 students of the Degree in Fine Arts of ADEMA-UIB, from various disciplines and techniques, such as digital drawing, pencil, engraving, painting, photography, video, mixed media and installations.
The Fine Arts students of ADEMA-UIB are exhibiting for the first time in the framework of the Nit de l’Art, one of the most important and popular art events in Mallorca, organized by the Art Palma Contemporani and marks the beginning of the Balearic art season.
Through each piece, according to the curator of the exhibition, Monica Galvan, “we can observe the reflective concerns of the students, which acquire particular qualities when transferred to a specific material and exhibition space. The title alludes to the creative possibilities that await in the tonalities of a language in the process of realization”.
“Entre blau i groc, verd” is a provocation to singular creativity, activating concerns that make us go beyond the known or obvious. In the words of its curator, Mónica Galván, “it is just that moment of taking a problem and launching into proposing creative means”.
The transformative power of the Fine Arts
For Mónica Galván, “nowadays it is very complex to talk about styles, due to the wide range of technical possibilities, globalized consumption and worldwide visibility. Circumstances increased with the massive use of the Internet that have modified the means used by the arts to continue creating. Creating goes beyond the elaboration of something never seen before, artistic processes are based on intense investigations that go beyond the content of the container”.
On the other hand, Galván has shown his satisfaction for joining the project of the Degree in Fine Arts. “It is very stimulating to return to teaching in a degree that encourages the search for creative methodologies and that is an educational option for the Balearic Islands. It is a fantastic professional challenge because I consider that teaching requires a close, intuitive and active accompaniment. My work is amplified by trying to achieve to unfold dynamics that stimulate reflection in students, so my collaboration with the curatorship of the exhibition is a great opportunity to begin to apply specific ideas to this experience, “said Galván.
For his part, the president of the Board of Trustees of the University School ADEMA, Diego Gonzalez, has shown his satisfaction and enthusiasm with this new work of our students who continue to give us surprises of their talent and creativity. “The Fine Arts have a great power of transformation and, from the University School ADEMA we want to contribute, add and strengthen our students with experiences as rich as these in which they form a team, add synergies and spread from one to another their passion for art and their desire to participate in workshops and exhibitions on dates of first order in the Balearic calendar, “said Gonzalez.
The president of the Barceló Foundation, Francisca Barceló, also congratulated the students for their work and offered them the Foundation as a space for future exhibitions to give visibility to young talents.
On the other hand, the Head of Studies of the Degree, Dr. Amparo Sard, explained that this exhibition is “a learning strategy”. “It is not only the assembly and the debate, but also the students’ ability to solve problems so that the meaning of the exhibition has a conceptual balance. Along the way, questions arise such as the interest of a work, how to structure its message, or how the discourse of one of the pieces interacts with the rest of the works of their classmates. And the result has been wonderful,” she said.
The president of Art Palma Contemporani, Fran Reus, has highlighted the collaboration of ADEMA and the Barceló Foundation in the Nit de l’Art and congratulated the young artists for their creations.
In this sense, both the Director General of Culture, Pedro Vidal, and the Director General of Universities and Higher Artistic Education, Antoni Alcover, have praised the work of students in their works with “a great artistic quality in a magnificent setting such as the Barceló Foundation” and have encouraged them to continue “being passionate about a degree that is already part of the history of the Islands”.
Finally, the general coordinator of Culture and Visual Arts of the City Council of Palma, Fernando Gómez de la Cuesta, has referred to the importance of the University Degree of Fine Arts of ADEMA-UIB as “something necessary, transcendental so that the creative talent of our community receives the training it deserves. A training that is developed by the best professionals in the context and which also joins such stimulating, exciting and necessary possibilities as exhibiting their creations at the Barceló Foundation and in the framework of the prestigious Nit de l’Art. A very complete proposal that demonstrates the appropriateness of inter-institutional collaboration and the projection of the emerging talent of our community”.
