>> Dr. Pere Riutord Sbert represented the Universitat de Mallorca (UMAC-ADEMA) at the Solemn Opening Ceremony of the 2026/2027 academic year for Spanish universities, held at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and presided over by His Majesty King Felipe VI.

The Rector of the Universitat de Mallorca (UMAC-ADEMA), Dr. Pere Riutord Sbert, participated in the Solemn Opening Ceremony of the 2026/2027 academic year for Spanish universities, held in Cartagena, which brought together representatives from the university and institutional sectors across the country.

The ceremony took place at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) and was presided over by His Majesty King Felipe VI. Among the officials in attendance were the rector of the host institution, Mathieu Kessler Neyer; the rector of the University of Murcia, Juan Samuel Baixauli Soler; the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant Ripoll; and the President of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras.

Dr. Pere Riutord’s participation in this meeting is part of the institutional representation of the Universitat de Mallorca and reflects its commitment to maintaining an active presence in the key forums for meeting and collaboration within the Spanish university system.

The event also featured remarks by Julián Garde López-Brea—President of the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE) and Rector of the University of Castilla-La Mancha—who addressed some of the key challenges currently facing universities, including funding, the growing demand for higher education, and the role of university institutions in education, research, knowledge transfer, and equal opportunities.

The inaugural lecture was delivered by Professor Antonio Sánchez Kaiser during a ceremony officially marking the start of the 2026/2027 academic year for Spanish universities.

The presence of the University of Mallorca at this event reinforces its participation in the national university system and its commitment to an open university—one that is connected to other institutions and dedicated to education, research, innovation, and social and territorial development.
