The Governing Council of the Universitat de Mallorca (UMAC-ADEMA), presided over by Diego González Carrasco, has approved—at the proposal of the rector—the leadership team that will make up the institution’s Executive Board.
The University of Mallorca (UMAC) has assembled its new leadership team with a structure characterized by a strong interdisciplinary, academic, research, international, and managerial profile. This takes place during a foundational phase in which the new institution aims to establish itself as a university project connected to Balearic society, committed to the scientific and cultural development and socioeconomic diversification of the Islands, and possessing an international outlook.
The Governing Council appointed Pere Riutord Sbert as Rector; he holds a doctorate in Medicine and Surgery and is a specialist in Stomatology and a leading figure in dentistry in the Islands, with a career spanning over four decades dedicated to university teaching, applied research, clinical practice, dental innovation, and institutional management.
Riutord assumes the rectorship with the backing of the President of the Governing Council, Diego González, who is considered a key figure in launching the new university project. The new rector has expressly acknowledged González’s confidence in him and highlighted his vision for creating an institution founded on the commitment to contribute to the educational, scientific, cultural, and social development of the Balearic Islands.
The composition of the leadership team reflects a commitment to a cross-disciplinary university that brings together health sciences, art, architecture, social sciences, and communication, alongside academic excellence, internationalization, and digital transformation. The common thread is the combination of university experience, applied knowledge, and connections to the professional, institutional, and socioeconomic environment of the Islands.
Riutord has maintained that the future of the University of Mallorca must be built upon dialogue, academic excellence, research, innovation, talent retention, and the humanistic values inherent to any higher education institution.
That orientation also shapes the composition of a team bringing together profiles with experience in teaching, research, management, knowledge transfer, and international outreach.

The General Secretariat and the Vice-Rectorate for Degree Programs and Academic Organization will be led by Pilar Tomás Gil. She holds a PhD in Educational Sciences (accredited by ANECA) and degrees in Psychopedagogy (from UNED) and Psychology (from the University of Valencia). Since the 2020–2021 academic year, she has served as Academic Secretary at the ADEMA University School, where she has coordinated administrative management and participated in the development, monitoring, and accreditation processes for university degree programs.
Pilar Tomás combines academic management with teaching and research. She is a member of the ADEMA Salud group and has participated in studies related to epidemiology, public health, and dentistry. Her background brings a perspective to the new leadership team that focuses on academic organization, degree quality, and student support.
The Vice-Rectorate for Quality and Services will be led by Carlos López Roig, who holds a PhD in Chemical Science and Technology from the University of the Balearic Islands, an institution where he conducted research and teaching activities for several years. His background combines scientific training and university experience with solid expertise in organizational management, quality systems, performance assessment, and continuous improvement. He holds accreditation from the University Quality Agency of the Balearic Islands. Prior to joining the university sector, he began his professional career in the quality and food industry, where he was involved in the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of management systems based on national and international standards.
Since 2020, he has been active at the ADEMA University School, where he initially served as Director of Quality and university lecturer before being appointed Director General of the institution. In this role, he has coordinated the operational development of various academic, administrative, and service areas, in addition to participating in the verification, monitoring, and accreditation processes for university degree programs.
The Vice-Rectorate for Culture will be led by Amparo Sard Valor. Holding a PhD in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona, Sard is an artist, educator, and researcher with an extensive academic background and an established international profile. She taught at the University of Barcelona for two decades and currently serves as Head of Studies for the Fine Arts degree program at ADEMA.
Their artistic and research career has unfolded across national and international institutions, featuring solo and group exhibitions at museums and centers such as MACRO in Rome, TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, the ABC Museum in Madrid, DA2 in Salamanca, Casal Solleric in Palma, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, White Box in New York, BOZAR in Brussels, the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Korea, and the Royal Ontario Museum. Their appointment positions culture and contemporary creation as one of the strategic pillars of the university project.
The Vice-Rectorate for Research will be led by Ángel Arturo López González, who holds a doctorate in Medicine from the University of the Balearic Islands, is a specialist in Occupational Medicine, serves as Secretary General of the Royal Academy of Medicine of the Balearic Islands, and heads the ADEMA Salud research group.
Her research career has focused on occupational medicine, workplace health, prevention, lifestyle, and health. She has supervised doctoral theses and medical specialty projects, and has an extensive record of scientific publications in indexed journals. Her profile reinforces one of the new university’s core areas: applied research and knowledge transfer in fields with a direct impact on health and society.
The Vice-Rectorate for Health will be headed by Carla Busquets Cortés, who holds dual degrees in Biology and Biochemistry from the University of the Balearic Islands, a PhD in Nutrition and Food Sciences, and ANECA accreditation for various university teaching positions.
Carla Busquets has built a career spanning nutritional research, clinical trials, public health, and university teaching. She has worked at the Balearic Islands Health Research Institute and in university hospitals, in addition to serving as teaching and research staff at ADEMA, where she teaches in the Dentistry and Human Nutrition and Dietetics degree programs. Her scientific output focuses on nutrition, physical activity, body composition, insulin resistance, cardiometabolic risk, oxidative stress, and inflammation.
The Vice-Rectorate for Strategic Programs and Campus will be led by Guillem Aloy Bibiloni, an architect, researcher, and lecturer. Holding a doctorate from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Barcelona Tech), he has developed a line of research focused on the relationship between theater, architecture, and the city—with particular attention to Palma—earning recognition through the City of Palma Research Award and an award from the Institut d’Estudis Catalans. He also received the Pilar Juncosa Research Award from the Pilar i Joan Miró Foundation.
Aloy has published in specialized journals covering art, culture, architecture, theater, and the city, and has undertaken research and teaching residencies in Barcelona, Paris, and Berlin. He has also served as a visiting lecturer at institutions such as the Architectural Association Visiting School, the Aarhus School of Architecture, the Royal Danish Academy, and ENSA Paris-Malaquais. His background brings a strategic perspective to the university’s leadership team regarding campuses, learning spaces, architecture, urban culture, and interdisciplinary programs.
The Vice-Rectorate for Student Affairs and Internationalization will be headed by Carles Francesc Baeza Server, who holds a degree in Sociology and a doctorate in Architecture, and is a professor in the field of Socio-community Intervention. His profile lies at the intersection of the social sciences and architecture, with a teaching and research career spanning Spain and Argentina.
Baeza Server brings a transdisciplinary perspective to the university community, learning environments, and the student experience. His background in international academic networks and his involvement in architecture, urban planning, and curriculum development projects reinforce the new university’s global dimension and its commitment to forging ties with academic institutions and international organizations.
The Vice-Rectorate for Innovation and Digital Transformation will be led by Marta González Rivas, a Dentistry graduate. She also holds advanced training in 3D animation and the creation of interactive environments. Her career combines experience in game design, clinical practice, and professional work at ADEMA, bridging digital innovation with new interactive languages, healthcare education, and the technological evolution of educational settings. Furthermore, she has collaborated with the management team of the ADEMA University Clinic and currently coordinates the Jaime III campus.
The Vice-Rectorate for Communication and Institutional Relations will be headed by Cheska Díaz Carrillo, a graduate in Information Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid and a journalist with over thirty years of experience in media, public institutions, business organizations, educational entities, and university projects.
Díaz has worked for media outlets such as Agencia EFE, Radio Nacional de España, El Mundo, Grupo Voz, and La Voz de Almería, and has held communications leadership roles at the Confederation of Business Associations of the Balearic Islands (CAEB), the Association of Industrialists of Mallorca (ASIMA), and various departments of the Government of the Balearic Islands. She is currently the Director of Communications and Institutional Relations at ADEMA University School, where she also serves on the Board of Trustees and the executive committee. Her profile strengthens the public, institutional, and social profile of the new university.
With this team, the University of Mallorca begins a phase defined by the construction of a pluralistic university governance model, in which academic experience combines with scientific research, culture, health, architecture, communication, institutional quality, and digital transformation.
The new leadership structure reflects a vision of a university connected to its local region yet open to the national and international context.
