The Inca City Council, Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca, and ADEMA inaugurated the exhibition “150 Years of the Railway in Mallorca” yesterday at 7:00 p.m. This initiative is part of the events commemorating the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the train to Mallorca and coincides with the special program for Dijous Gros, which will be held tomorrow in Inca.
The exhibition “150 Years of the Railway in Mallorca” offers a journey through the 150 years of history of this means of transport, which, since its arrival, has revolutionized and forever transformed our society.
Through the exhibition panels, featuring texts, documents, photographs, and plans that contextualize the story, visitors will learn about the history of the railway in Mallorca and the future of the train as the safest and most sustainable means of transportation.
The exhibition will remain in Inca until May 23rd thanks to a collaboration between SFM and the Inca City Council. It is located on ADEMA’s new Inca campus, at 72 Calle del Tren, across from the station. It can be visited Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the train to Mallorca, its first journey between Palma and Inca. The line was inaugurated on February 24, 1875, and has operated uninterruptedly from the last quarter of the 19th century to the present day. The arrival of the railway to the island marked an unprecedented economic, social, and cultural transformation.
“At ADEMA, we are very proud to host this exhibition on our new Inca Campus, an educational space located right across from the station, in a location steeped in symbolism for this commemoration. The history of the railway is also the history of the social, economic, and territorial development of our island, and we firmly believe in the value of understanding our past to plan for a more sustainable future,” stated ADEMA Vice Dean, Dr. Pere Riutord.
