The University of Mallorca (UMAC-UMAC) has signed a collaboration agreement with the Doctor Mallorca clinic network to facilitate curricular external academic internships for undergraduate and postgraduate students in Health Sciences-related degree programs.
The agreement has been signed by the Rector of UMAC-ADEMA, Dr. Pere Riutord, and Dr. Ernesto Pellegrini, representing Pellegrini Investments, S.L., a company that operates under the Doctor Mallorca brand.
The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration enabling students to complement their academic training through supervised practical experiences, apply the knowledge they have acquired, and develop technical, methodological, and professional competencies through direct contact with the reality of clinical practice.
Doctor Mallorca is a Majorcan company specializing in the provision and coordination of private healthcare services. It operates four clinics of its own and maintains partnership agreements with ten other centers across the island, enabling it to offer extensive healthcare coverage throughout Mallorca.
Its areas of activity include general medicine, urgent medical care, consultations at its own centers, and home visits. The company also provides assistance at hotels, villas, and on board vessels, and coordinates diagnostic tests, specialist consultations, and hospital referrals when necessary.
It also collaborates with insurance companies and travel assistance providers, in addition to developing telemedicine and clinical monitoring services. Its care model is characterized by providing rapid, personalized, multicultural, and multilingual service, specifically tailored to individuals who are far from their usual healthcare environment.
As explained by Dr. Pere Riutord, Rector of UMAC-ADEMA, “this agreement will enable future health science professionals to gain insight into a healthcare sector of particular importance to the Balearic Islands, experience its operations firsthand, and develop practical skills through exposure to real-world situations.”
Furthermore, it was noted that this collaboration aligns with UMAC-ADEMA’s commitment to consolidating a system of academic excellence and an innovative educational model based on project-based learning, practical training, and a constant connection to the professional environment.
For his part, Dr. Ernesto Pellegrini, founder of Doctor Mallorca, expressed his satisfaction with collaborating with the Universitat de Mallorca and contributing to the training of future healthcare professionals. “Our work offers students the opportunity to experience a care model in which quality of care must be accompanied by a personal approach, speed, and adaptability,” he explained.
During their internships, students will gain insight into the operations of various healthcare settings and learn about the coordination processes involving physicians, specialists, health centers, hospitals, insurance companies, and care services.
Each student will be assigned an academic supervisor from the Universitat de Mallorca and a professional mentor designated by Doctor Mallorca. Both will monitor the activity and collaborate on its evaluation, in accordance with the training plan established for each internship.
The purpose of the internships is to contribute to the students’ comprehensive development, complement their theoretical and practical learning, familiarize them with the working methods of the professional environment, and enhance their future employability.
